In 2010 Mr. Gottfredson was commissioned by the Utah State Division of Indian Affairs to make a documentary film titled The Black Hawk War; Utah's Forgotten Tragedy. The project was funded by the Utah State Division of Indian Affairs, the George S. Deloris Dori Eccles Foundation, and private donors.
Filmmakers were Black Hawk Productions, LLC, Ron Hill Imagery, and Emy Award winner James Fortier of Turtle Island Productions. Phillip wrote, directed, and produced the film.
"I discontinued production of the film The Black Hawk War; Utah's Forgotten Tragedy. Through my ongoing research of the Black Hawk War, I discovered that there are major 
contradictions and inaccuracies in Utah's history. For example the Timpanogos and Ute Tribes are two distinctly different Tribes in origin, customs, and bloodlines. Ute Chiefs were Ignatio, Colorow, and Ouray. When I asked the Ute Tribe who the Chiefs Wakara (aka Walker), Tabby, Black Hawk and others they told me "they were not our Chiefs, they were renegade Indians from another Tribe. Today, fifteen years later the Utes are claiming the Timpanogos are Ute. But they don't provide any documentation to prove their claim. Whereas the Timpanogos Tribe has provided me with thousands of pages of documentation which they have filed with the Department of the Interior showing they are not Ute, and never were. This revelation alone completely changed the accuracy of the film. I had invested over three years in the project and never received any compensation. But, had I continued, I would have added to the confusion that already exists in Utah's history, something I was not willing to participate in. My supporters and I were victims of Mormon's one-sided and often misleading accounts."
One very importat point to make here is that my video, The Black Hawk War; Utah's forgotten Tragedy, was never meant to be for distribution as it clearly states on the CD seen above. It was made as a teaser to show my backers only. Still it has been published on the the internet which is in violation of copyright law. And those who are violation will be punished accordingly.
